Ouseburn- this was a project back in college that i did. ouseburn is a place in newcastle upon tyne and is quite well hidden, however it is very popular within the art community and is full of alot of little inspirations that you cant find anywhere else. here is the most inspirational thing i found inspiring when i was down there........

This inspired me so much and that's where my ideas began to form to create my final piece to be exhibited to the public in a small gallery space. alot of people on my course chose very different routes but for me it was all about keeping it neutral and going with the flow of the scenery and mixing it up with the modern world, so the route i chose was fashion!!!

Here is my final piece fro the beginning to the end.....

this was the start. i chose floaty material for my dress because its natural and flows and has no harshness to it.

i then took alot of photographs around Ouseburn and did a print workshop to make them look like polaroid photographs to show the mystical place but also combine the history of it.

the photographs go all the way around the dress and i used a heat press to attach the photographs to the dress... easier said than done.....

so i decided this wasn't enough and there was something missing as my final piece looked very plain. i decided then to hand sew into the dress the picture from above but in a very loose style to keep the flow of the piece, i used a range of non natural colours to give the dress a abstract yet modern feel to it. i also added some bits in that are not in the photograph from the surrounding ares such as biker wall. to exhibit the piece i then hung it on a coat hanger from the ceiling, i made the coat hanger myself to go with my piece out of thick metal wire.

To me the piece has a vintage yet modern take on it and is one of my favourites so far...... so here it is the finished project.

here she is my final beauty and i love her................

Been a long while

it has been a long while since i updated. i have a beautiful daughter now and i have been working on some photography and she has been my subject so heres a few little photos in m progress of getting the perfect pictures.......

Some pieces from the last 3 years.

Here i am showing some pictures of some of my old sketchbook work and i will say a little about what themes they came from and how i created them.

I created these mood boards in my sketchbook for a project involving the sea. i really enjoyed making these as they look very busy and have a  certain colour scheme to them. i used a diverse range of materials in this as thing you find washed up on the beach or in the sea it's self. i find that they look really interesting with all the different combinations in them.

Here i was given the task to create a sculpture in 5 hours. although this sounded challenging i had an idea strait away, the theme i chose looks as if it is another sea but it wasnt i chose the theme to be natural forms. for this i used 3 manequins and chicken wire and other various materials. i flound making this was alot of fun as i got to use a diverse range of techniques and media's.

the final piece looked great but here i am showing the steps of creating it. in some places it was a bit tricky to create but eventually it all came together and is now being shown at excelsior academy in scotswood.

As part of a portraiture project i decided to try doing cubism. i used oil pastels to recreate my own version of a cubist painting of george braque.

i found this a complicated yet interesting piece and i really enjoyed the techniques i have learned to use during the process of using oil pastels.

also in the portraiture project i looked at illustration portraits and i also combined culture with this and some of the pieces that came out were superb and i found that some of the better pieces were created by accident but worked well. i looked at david downton for illustration portraits as i find his work looks delicate yet sexy.

these pieces were created in a collage like technique which i think makes them look visually stimulating. the pieces are good to look at as they make your braing think of a rabge of questions and possibilities about them.

I created this piece some years ago and it took me around 6 weeks from start to finish and the thing i love most about this piece is the different textures and materials used on it as well as the diverse range of colours. i used many different techniques on this piece to make it look the way it does now and this is one of my favourite personal pieces. this piece is was the first proffessional piece i created and since creating this piece i have gone on to create many more successful pieces. for me this piece was the first great achievement in my artist life, as a student and an artist.

Day of the Dead

this is one of my old projects themed day of the dead and is a mexican tradition. i am going to show some of my artist response work and my final piece i created for this project. the artist i looked at imparticular was a female artist called Nani Serrano, Nani Serrano works using patterns on faces and i did the same in response to her work. for this i used the one and only Marilyn Monroe.

here are the pieces for my response work to this artist. i chose this artist because her work is visually interesting and i find working with patter is stimulating on the brain and vision.

having done these pieces as experimenting using pattern i decided that this would begreat for my final piece so i worked on a drawing. this drawing was in a show like style using a warm, firey colour palette. i chose to use these tones because of her famous reputation and then i created the pattern. the final piece of the drawing is really eye catching and exciting. once the drawing was complete i then scanned it into a computer to be printed on to canvase and then sewn into.

the picture on the left is the finished drawing which took around 6 hours to creat from start to finish and the piece on the right is the piece printed onto canvase. io have sewn into the roses and also sewn on the day of the dead title.

Some old fashion pieces

here are some of my old fashion pieces i have created over the last few years. i created these pieces in my home and i found making them was a very exciting process.

these are 3 dresses that i have made and i find that each of them are very beautiful to look at. i created them in my own style and i think that they would look great in a summer dress collection. each dress took me around 4 days to make each and i made them in dress size 12. these dresses are specificly designed for summer as the material used if light and does not cling to the body. i designed and made these as a little project i set myself over last summer 2011.

Digital Project

well so far i have been looking at a range of artists and experimenting with digital techniques on photographs i have been taking, i have also been experimenting with different ways i can set out my 3 minute final piece film. My film will be set around the theme of metamorphosis. within this theme i will be looking at how throughout a life time people's personality and expressions can change depending on what type of environment they are in. For this i will be taking various clips and merging them together to creat my piece and this will be based on personalities at home VS personalities on holiday.

so far i have taken clips for my 3 minute film and i am experimenting with them using different effects such as changing contrast and colours and working on how they come into my films such as fading in and out or flipping. i have also been working on creating mirrored pictures to give a surreal effect. i have also been working on the composition of my film and which clip and picture goes where.
I have been looking at old films to use as reference points here are some clips from videos that i have been looking at:

This film is called meshes of the afternoon and was made in 1943 by Maya Deren. i have been looking at this video to give me ideas on cloning for my film as i find this visually interesting.

I have looked at this film for reference to making a silent movie with different sounds that tell the story and maybe some titles throughout the film to help viewers understand what is going on.

well i am now finished the digital project and i have to say i found it hard but interesting for my final short film i made the film about being happy on holiday and at home and there are some really interesting pieces within the short film. i also produced 4 digital stills from the short film and printed them in a range of sizes. i also edited them in photoshop and i found that they were really interesting and fun to create here are the images.......

Tuesday 6 March 2012

Well the start of a new project has began and im looking at film makers and photographers for some artist research, i have looked at a few but the one that stood out to me most was:

MAN RAY

the reason this particular artist stands out to me is what he photographs. i have found that in alot of his work he likes to photograph close ups of different areas of womens bodies like this eye he photographed for instance:

i find this piece quite intreguing because when i look at it the piece makes me wonder what the subject could b looking at. the piece to me also looks staged because knowing myself as a woman i know that no ones eye lashes look that perfect after applting make-up to the. when looking at this piece i also wonder about the two clear balls under the womans eye and what they could symbolise.

i have found that this artists photographs are visually interesting. Man Ray is an american artist who is described as a modern artist, he was a mass contributor to the Dada and surrealist movements. some of his photographs look calm and yet others look hectic and have alot going on in them, it is like they bounce of eachother to create a magnet like effect of attracting and retracting from eachother.

CHANCE AND ORDER FINAL PIECE

so my chance and order project finished yesterday.....( thank god ) lol but i found that the project was good as it gave me a chance to try new techniwues and use different materials that i have not used before. for my final piece i created a swing to represent how when your a teen you are trying to live in an adults world but in the different social groups. the social group i have gone with is Charver because that was the social group i was in as a young teen. i chose the swing because we all used to drink alcohol in a park at the bottom of my old street and as everyone arrived with their alcohol it was a race to get the swing seat. so i decided the best place to shoot the photos were on a grotty field outside some grotty flats. here are the final piece photos.

well these are my final photos and i think they have came out quite well and portray exactly what i wanted them to. they look great becase they are taken in a run down area and the photos are very clear.

Chance and Order

Currently i am working on a project titled chance and order for this project i am making a swing to represent the satges each young teens go through from, CHAV to EMO and many more.

This piece shows that you go through the stages of social groups but the chance is where you end up in life. for many they move on and get jobs and have a family but others are getting older and still think their a teen. The piece also shows teens trying to live in an adult world by drinking, smoking, having sex and taking drugs.

Here is an artist i have looked at for this piece:

Thomas Hirschhorn

This is one of my favourite pieces from Thomas Hirschhorn because it reminds me of the pin art toys where you could put your hand in and the pins would make the shape of your hand. although this is not what his piece is based on that is what it makes me think of.

Thomas Hirschhorn - Exhibition

this link will take you to one of Thomas Hirschhorns exhibitions displayed at Gladstone Gallery. The exhibition shows his diverse range of his pieces and how he experiments with other techniques and media.
